This week we’ve been busy planting up our autumn Chrysanthemums which I must say are looking beautiful. We’ve had over 3,500 to plant in total, so we thought it was a good opportunity to get the whole team involved. It has been a real team effort to get everything planted in time, ready to be distributed to all three garden centres.
Members of our till team priced up each pot and even washed some old ones so they could be reused. Staff members from the shrub and furniture department also got their hands dirty helping to pot each one up on our potting bench at the back of Castle Gardens. The variety we’ve used is called ‘Garden Mum’ and will deliver wonderful shades of pink, yellow, orange, cream and red when in full bloom.
Now we’re in July and the sun has (at last) decided to shine so we’ve been gearing up for more summer events. Coming up we’re hosting a visit from best-selling Author Joanne Harris (famous for her novel ‘Chocolat’) who will be talking about her new book ‘Peaches for Monsieur le Curé’ at The Butterfly House on Thursday 12th July at 7pm. You’ll find more information about tickets (which include Bellini Cocktails and Canapés!) at www.sherborneliterarysociety.com.
Lucky for some, our Charity Quiz Night takes place on Friday 13th – it’s for a really worthwhile cause so make sure you pop in, pick up a ticket or put your name down to enjoy a fun evening where everyone is welcome!
And finally, the first of our Wildlife Weeks starts at Castle Gardens on Saturday 14th July – the themed week includes a talk from the inspiring TV Gardener Toby Buckland on Thursday 19th, so make sure you don’t miss the chance to meet him!
