seed potatoes

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get out in the garden more often and grow some fruit and veg, then we have a few tips on getting your garden ready. This time of year is a great time to plant fruit trees and bushes, shallots, onion sets and seed potatoes. So to get your soil in tip-top condition, dig over last year’s vegetable plot and mix in compost as you go. If you want to grow beans, then filling trenches with kitchen waste is a great way to help them along. For rhubarb shoots, it’s time to cover them with forcing jars for an early harvest, and get some cloches or horticultural fleece to cover any other early sowings to keep the soil nice and warm.
