Last May we donated two pots of Narcissus Sherborne to Sherborne Abbey, which had been bred by ex president of the Blandford and District Horticultural Society JW Blanchard from Shillingtstone. So I was delighted when I attended a meeting at the society last week to give a talk on gardening trends, to see a table full of the stunning double daffodils, which had been lovingly cultivated by its members. I was asked to judge the entries as we donated 30 bulbs back in the winter. The challenge was on for the members to grow them in time for my visit on Thursday 24 April. Miss R Bell from Blandford was crowned winner for her beautifully tall and vibrant entry and was presented with a first prize certificate and a bottle of wine.
