Autumn is the perfect and traditional time for spring planting as the soil is still warm and moist from summer, enabling plants to get established before winter sets in. It’s an extremely exciting time of year for a gardener, especially with our beautiful array of ornamental and fruit trees ready to be planted, from Acer to Zelkova plus Apples, Pears, Plums, Cherries, Medlar, Quince, Peach and Apricot… What’s more, hanging baskets really come into their own in October and can last up to nine months, with Winter Pansies, Violas, Cyclamen, Primroses and lots more keeping colour and interest well into winter. Better still, when they’ve reached their full potential they can be transferred to fill in any border space.
So don’t let the cooler weather put you off, get out into the garden now so you can reap the rewards next spring.
