Friday 8 May was a big day for the people of Poundbury, as HRH The Prince of Wales once again returned to witness the development of the community built to his own architectural principles.

On a day during which Prince Charles officially opened the Poundbury Cancer Institute and personally presented the keys to a family who have bought the 250th home in Poundbury, we were delighted that he found time to visit our garden centre, which he officially opened in 2006.

To mark the occasion, Poundbury Gardens’ own Lucy Simpson presented The Prince with a David Austin old fashioned yellow shrub rose, named Charlotte, which we hope had special significance for His Royal Highness just a few days after the birth of his first granddaughter.
