Last month, Castle Gardens hosted the first Wild Sherborne meeting, where organisations including Sherborne Hedgehog Group, Butterfly Conservation and Dorset COP gathered to discuss ways that the town can ensure the safeguarding of wildlife in the town. Created by Neil Walker, Wild Sherborne aims to gather the skills of local organisations and groups that have a vested interest in the environment to promote urban green spaces as somewhere for plants and wildlife to call home.
In the coming weeks and months, Wild Sherborne will be inviting members of the public to log their own wildlife sitings around Sherborne with the hope of creating a Sherborne-sized nature reserve. As well as getting a better understanding of the wildlife and plants that are present in the town, Wild Sherborne will use this information to help advise residents and businesses on how they can tweak their outdoor spaces to welcome more species into the town.
The next meeting is still being planned but if you would like to find out more about Wild Sherborne then you can email wild.sherborne@gmail.com.
