Houseplant Department Manager (with Duty Manager responsibilities) at Castle Gardens

An interesting and dynamic role at an award-winning garden centre, as department manager, you’ll manage all aspects of our houseplant department, which includes buying, plant care, display creation and maintaining excellent standards of plant health, presentation, and cleanliness.

Working with our established suppliers (and sourcing new ones), you’ll help develop and evolve our beloved houseplant department and product offering.
You’ll plan seasonal ranges, promotions, create eye-catching displays, monitor sales performance, and work closely with the wider team to share knowledge and support the garden centre.

As Duty Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the site during allocated shifts, leading the team, completing task lists, handling customer queries, and opening and closing the garden centre.

Delivering great customer service is a cornerstone of our business, we really do go the extra mile for our customers, because they mean a lot to us, so in both roles an upbeat can-do attitude is needed.
Training will be provided on all aspects of the role.

About you

• Knowledge of houseplants, or a strong interest and willingness to learn
• Previous supervisory or management experience (retail or horticulture preferred)
• Confident, organised team leader with good communication skills
• Commercially aware, detail-focused, and customer-oriented
• Passionate about sustainability and reducing environmental impact
• Available to work every Saturday, and thrive in a busy retail environment

This is a full time, permanent role with an immediate start. You’ll be working 39.5 hours a week and we will offer ongoing training, a supportive working environment and staff discounts.

Till Operator with Duty Manager Responsibilities at Castle Gardens

We’re on the lookout for an upbeat person to join our friendly and talented team at our award-winning garden centre. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same, its perfect for someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and a bit of buzz.

Your day will include:
• Delivering warm, professional, and efficient service within our till team
• Handling transactions accurately and confidently
• Helping customers to their car with purchases and assisting with housekeeping tasks
• As Duty Manager on nominated shifts, you’ll ensure smooth day-to-day operations
• Support the team, helping them to do their best
• Deal with customer queries, work well under pressure, and multi-task
• Help maintain high standards of service and presentation across the centre
• Open and close the business (key holder responsibility)
Training will be provided on all aspects of the role.

About you

• Previous retail, customer facing, and till experience would be ideal but a great attitude is primary
• Supervisory or key-holder experience is a bonus
• A confident, positive communicator who leads by example
• Organised, reliable, and calm under pressure
• A genuine interest in customer experience (and a love of plants is a great extra!)
• Available to work weekends

You will be working 32 hours per week, including Saturdays and Sundays. This is a permanent contract with immediate start.

Plant area supervisor at Poundbury Gardens

We are looking for a full time hands-on plant area supervisor to join our centre plant department. Working closely with our plant manager, you will help run the plant area efficiently, ensuring our plants are healthy, beautifully displayed, and well-stocked. You’ll also be involved in giving horticultural advice to customers assisting with plant talks and managing plant ordering.

This is a physical hands-on role, perfect for someone who enjoys working with plants and doesn’t mind getting stuck in.
